創作背景1968年年末，披頭士放棄了現場表演兩年多後，保羅·麥卡特尼渴望樂隊重返舞臺表演。當年的《White Album》錄音環節已經看到隊員間一些嚴重的爭論，和續漸催向緊張的關係。麥卡特尼認為樂隊因為多年沒有作現場演奏，已失去凝聚力。這時麥卡特尼想起來母親曾說過的一句話：“讓一切都隨其自然”，於是麥卡特尼開始構思這首歌曲。麥卡特尼母親的名字叫瑪麗，所以他用聖經中耶穌的母親瑪利亞來代指自己的母親，於是誕生了“Mother Mary comes to me”這句歌詞。1969年1月3日，披頭士為了拍攝紀錄片《順其自然》，在特威克南電影製作室首次演唱了該首歌曲，該版本中只有保羅·麥卡特尼的鋼琴聲和歌聲。同月31日，披頭士在Apple工作室錄製了正式版本。
